Champions crowned at Lismore
LISMORE Golf Club’s championships have been played and won over the past three weeks, with some great weather and ideal conditions for the tournament.
The club enjoyed some extra golfers this year, which made the competition much more interesting.
In A grade, Tom Brett continued his great form.
With nine holes left to play, Tom was already out to a lead of 17 strokes so it was only a matter of how far in front of the field he was going to finish.
A well-deserved back to back champion, Tom has shown consistency this season.
Darren Brett was runner-up, 13 strokes behind.
After a slow start in round one, he charged up the field on moving day and was able knock off Andrew Stewart by one stroke, with Stewart taking third place.
In B grade, the big question on everyone’s lips was whether or not Ross Marquand was finally going to break 300 over the three day competition.
Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, with a bit of bad luck with some trees and a golf ball mix up, it was 301 this year.
Dale Marquand found the comp too easy and was in the lead by 20 strokes after round two (Horse was overheard saying he’d play left handed on the final day).
Marquand won the B grade championship by 15 strokes over Luke Brain in second and Ben Anderson third.
C grade was quite a bit closer. Clint Dudman was nine strokes behind coming into the final 18, and was having his best round of the tournament, but it was to no avail as he fell one stroke short of Jack Atkins.
The Geoff Skene Memorial award, which is the lowest nett score on the final day, was taken out by the president Luke Brain with an impressive 89-23-66.
Many thanks to Luke’s wife Dani Brain who did an amazing job with the presentation dinner.
Thanks also to everyone who competed and congratulations to all winners.
