The Tigers travelled to Alexandra Oval last Saturday to take on the Eagles in what was anticipated to be a close, physical encounter.

The Eagles currently sit fifth on the leader board, with only percentage separating the Tigers, fourth-placed Hawkesdale Macarthur and the Eagles – each with five wins from seven rounds.

The home side got off to a quick start on Saturday, booting 3.8 to 1.0 in the opening term before the visitors were able to close the gap in the second to be within a goal at the main break.

The Tigers struggled to make any ground on the scoreboard in the third quarter, contained to just one behind, while the Eagles were able to add three goals to their tally.

The Tigers regrouped at three-quarter time and went out strong in the final term, applying pressure all over the ground and limiting the Eagles’ scoring opportunities.

While the Tigers were able to contain the home side to just one behind, their goals were also minimal, with just 1.3 added to the board.

Final scores were Ararat 7.10.52 to Woorndoo Mortlake 5.7.37.

Best for the Tigers were Tom Gough, Sam Jasper, Brent Fedley, Dougal Sweeney, Haydn Templeton and Matthew Pemberton.

Sam Jasper kicked four majors for the side while Damien Pemberton added one.

Earlier in the day, the Tigers’ reserves struggled against the fourth-placed Eagles, going down by 84 points, 4.2.26 to 17.8.110.

Charles Kenny kicked three goals for the Tigers while Tahi Pompey added one.

Best for the side were James Henry, Matthew Bourchier, Tipa Brown, Charlie Carmody, Tahi Pompey and Rhys Casson.

Woorndoo Mortlake’s senior netballers had a tough day out, losing all three games, while the juniors were undefeated for the day.
